The Happy Studio- Email.
Why on earth would a whole post in this series be devoted to email? Because quite honestly, it’s an enormous part of what we do these days. It has affected our workflow, our technology budget, our client list, and even our hiring practices.
Email survival
If you are responsible for a significant portion of your company’s communication (i.e. are an owner, a sales person, or account executive) you know that the effectiveness of your correspondence is tantamount to virtually all other attributes of your skill-set on a daily basis. If you’re like us, you started out being a good designer or programmer, or copywriter, and have (abruptly) evolved into a digital communicator.
Questions...
We’re thinking of starting a new series of articles on the blog where we answer people’s questions about the design industry, or our business specifically. We think it would be good for the community, and hopefully useful as well. If you’re a student, a client, potential client, competitor, etc. and you have any great questions, shoot them at us, and we’ll try and answer them as thoroughly and honestly as possible. Either reply to this article, or send an email to info[at]entermotion.com if you’ve got a good one to start with.
An Imperfect Process
There are steps a company takes when looking for an agency or studio to help develop and build their brand. It involves sitting down with someone from each respective studio and getting a feel for what they represent, analyzing the type of work they do, and figuring out what they’d be like to work with in general. Then, after deliberation of sorts, a decision is made. It seems like there should be another step in there, called follow up.
The Happy Studio - A Five-Minute-A-Week Portfolio.
It’s not that hard really. Think of all the things you do once a week, and how they add up after a while. A weeks worth of trash? A weeks worth of laundry? A year’s worth?
Your portfolio is just the same. Small work adds up to big changes.
Five minutes a week adds up to four-and-a-half hours a year. Do you have any idea how many web optimized images you can kick out in four-and-a-half hours? Lots. Imagine if you devoted one hour a week.
Let’s not forget that many hands make small work. If you instruct every employee to spit out a portfolio image for every project they work on, you will be shocked at how up to date your portfolio is in just a short time.
It’s best not to forget that your portfolio is the life blood of your business. It gets you new clients, new employees, and shows the world what you’re capable of. Surely that’s worth five minutes a week.
Southwestern College Professional Studies Site Launch!
We’d like to congratulate Southwestern College Professional Studies on the launch of their new website! With the help of their marketing and new media director, we were able to take their web initiatives to the next level. Although we can’t take credit for all the design, we worked with the Southwestern College team to develop a comprehensive search function that provides extensive information about the topic being searched for. They’ve embraced their leadership role in professional studies, and we’re proud of the path we helped them pave. Good luck with the new site!
